Today, instant messaging(IM) have become an essential tool for each person on the Internet. It overcomes the traditional interpersonal space-time constraint, expand the exchanging space and means between people. However, its rapid development has greatly changed understanding,the way of people’s exchanges and emotion, which lets some relationships in real time become virtual and indirect, enables the practical skills of people to drop in, and also makes people’s mental problems emerge, such as loneliness and indifference, trust crisis and so on. All of this makes the relationships that seem to get closer and closer under the influence of the Internet become more distant, lack of mutual understanding, and be on the alert between people. So the study for the Instant messaging to the impact of interpersonal relationships has important practical significance, and attracts increasing attention.Based on the analysis in the three aspects of the instant messaging for interpersonal relations: understanding, behavior patterns and emotion, it seems that the exchange of instant communication tools demonstrate many different characteristics comparing with the reality of social exchange, and has produced a certain influence on the reality of social life, but it is the same as the reality of social exchange, which in essence exists for the establishment and development of interpersonal relationships for humanity. From the characteristics, development, and the use of Instant Messaging, through its relationship with the social life, the paper analyzed the social, economic, and cultural causes of instant messaging tool, and explored the emergence and existence for a long time of instant messaging, and the use of the breadth and reasonableness so that expounded the influence of instant messaging for interpersonal understanding,behavior and emotional impact; analysed changes in the three aspects under the Instant Messaging, in order to recognize the reasonableness and necessity of construction of a harmonious interpersonal relationships.
