Abstract

Objective: To investigate the relative risk factors of hypoglycemia in newborn infants. In order to find ways to medical treatment and prevention. Lower the rate of hypoglycemia encephalopathy in the neonate. Methods: we searched patient information through the computer. All clinical information of 267 newborns suffered from hypoglycemia and 267 newborns from euglycemia who, all of 2325, had been hospitalized in NICU in the First Teaching Hospital Affiliated to Xinjiang Medical University from Jan. 2009 to Jul.2010 were analyzed retrospectively. Data of risk factors were processed with multiple Logistic regression analysis. First take Logistic regression analysis of single risk, then take multiple Logistic regression analysis to significant hypoglycemia risk factors. Results: The incidence rate of hypoglycemia in newborn infants is 11.48%(267/2325).The patients of asymptomatic are 169 cases(63.29%), others[98cases(36.78%)]have some symptoms, include inability to suck [72cases(26.97%)],tremor[60cases (22.47%)], sleepiness [40cases(14.98%)], scream [22cases(8.24)], and so on. The statistic analysis showed that hypothermia [186 cases (69.66%)], preterm infant[165 cases (61.80%)], low birth weight [136cases(50.94%)], infection(include neonatal pneumonia, neonatal septicemia) [88cases (32.95%)], maternal premature rupture of membranes [86cases (32.21%)], asphyxia of newborn[85cases(31.84%)], brain disease (include hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy and intracranial hemorrhage)[85cases(31.84%)],hyberbilirubine-mia[84cases(31.46%)],maternal age, high risk[67cases(25.90%)], maternal hypertension [62cases (23.22%)], abnormal amniotic fluid [50cases(18.73%)], maternal other diseases (include syphilis, rheumatism, thrombocytopenia, oral warfarin, blood transfusion, diarrhea, vaginitis, appendicitis, test-tube baby products, family hypertension, HELLP syndrome (hemolysis, elevated liver enzymes, and low platelets syndrome), anemia, heart failure, chronic gastritis, miscarriage, chromosomal abnormalities, threatened abort) [46cases(17.23%)],twins[43case(16.10%)], umbilical cord abnormalities [36cases (13.84%)], maternal diabetes [29cases(10.86%)]and macrosomia [23cases(8.61%)], a total of 16, were significant hypoglycemia risk factors (according to the level of morbidity). Conclusion: Dynamic monitoring of blood glucose concentration and reasonable adjustment is recommended for neonates with risk factors to lower morbility and mortality of hypoglycemia encephalopathy in the neonate.
