Abstract

Objective: To observe the therapeutic effects of Channel-Unblocking and Turbidity-Descending Formula (Tōng Mài Jiàng zhuóFāng,通脉降浊方) on patients with Angina Pectoris of Coronary Heart Disease (pattern of phlegm-turbidity and blood stasis)coupled with hyperlipidemia , and investigate its mechanism. Methods: 100 patients with Angina Pectoris of Coronary Heart Disease coupled with hyperlipidemia , the pattern of which after syndrome differentiation turns out to be phlegm-turbidity and blood stasis, were randomly selected into treatment group and control group. Then treatment group were dosed typical western medicine and Channel-Unblocking and Turbidity-Descending Formula, while the control group received typical western medicine and oral simvastatin. Channel-Unblocking and Turbidity-Descending Formula composed of starwort root (15g), immature orange fruit (15g), scutellaria root (15g), rhubarb root and rhizome (10g), pinellia rhizome (10g), white peony root (20g), danshen root (20g), Indian bread (20g), aged tangerine peel (20g), and liquorice root (10g). The amount of any single medicinal we adopted was raised or reduced according to the patients’specific condition, and the preparation was the conventional decoction. A course of treatment involved 14 days, after which the therapeutic effects were observedResults: Channel-Unblocking and Turbidity-Descending Formula had effectively reduced the frequency, duration, severity and patients’amount of nitroglycerin usage of Angina Pectoris attacks, alleviate such syndromes as chest distress, shortness of breath, palpitation, and lassitude in Chinese Medicine sense, as well as improved electrocardiographic expressions, lowered lipid levels, reduced the serum concentrations of C-reaction protein (CRP), and inhibited inflammation.By comparison, it is found that Channel-Unblocking and Turbidity-Descending, similar to the Statins, functions to regulate lipid levels, inhibit inflammation, improve endothelial functions, and prevent and treat arteriosclerosis with no side effects come forth. Conclusion: There is a sure effectiveness of Channel-Unblocking and Turbidity-Descending Formula in treating Angina Pectoris of Coronary Heart Disease, as well as regulating lipid levels and inhibiting inflammation
