Abstract


In recent years, the status of operational risk management is increasingly visible in the financial practice. Both regulators and commercial banks, have unprecedented emphasis on operational risk management and control. Study of operational risk in China’s commercial banks due to the short time, most banks on the risk indicators to track is still in the initial stage, the quantification of operational risk is still in its infancy. How to quickly improve the level of operational risk management in China’s commercial banks has become an increasingly important topic. Facing to the situation of regulatory requirements, market constraints, industry competition and the internal management, the newly established Agricultural Bank of China Co., Ltd, urgently need to establish a sound operational risk management system, explore an effective way to Identify and manage operational risk. Simultaneously, it is my original intention to choose the theme.This thesis is made up of five parts.In the first part, the thesis introduces the domestic and foreign commercial banks are facing more and more severe operational risk, regulatory authorities strengthen the guidance of operational risk management, Agricultural Bank of China need to be more comprehensive and in-depth studies on operational risk management.In the second part, firstly, the thesis makes a review of the relevant studies on operational risk management. It describes the definition, measurement and management of operational risk. Secondly, in understanding the concept of internal control and its evolution, the thesis introduces the basic theory of commercial bank’s internal control.In the third part, the thesis describes the characteristics and classification of commercial bank’s operational risk. It analyzes five causes of operational risk from the view of internal control. In the end, it describes three kinds of identification methods of operational risk.In the IV part, this thesis analysis of operational risk management principles and management framework in commercial bank. It uses the Bayesian network as a new way to analyze the operational risk management.In the last part, in the analysis of the status of the Agricultural Bank’s operational risk management, the thesis describes operational risk identification methods and operational risk point of the Agricultural Bank. It proposes to strengthen operational risk management of the Agricultural Bank. Firstly, the Agricultural Bank improves the operational risk management organization. Secondly, the Agricultural Bank speeds up the promotion of operational risk management system. In the end, the Agricultural Bank uses the Bayesian network to manage operational risk.
