The energy structure of Beijing has been gradually shift from relying mainly on coal to electricity primary, coal, gas and oil supplementary. However, the electric energy resource of Beijing is limited and difficult to afford itself. With the rapid economic development, the contradiction between large demand and limit supply of electric energy has restricted the sustainable development of Beijing.While the most feasible way of resolving it is to improve electric energy efficiency at present.On the basis of analysis on current status of electric energy utilization in Beijing, this paper discusses the reasons for changes of electric energy intensity in Beijing with the complete factor composition method, analyzing the total factor electric energy efficiency of Beijing by the model of DEA. Based on empirical research, the paper proposes some effective ways to improve the electric energy efficiency in Beijing, such as promoting technical progress, accelerating the structure adjustment of industry and product, vigorously intensifying publicity for electric energy conservation and reforming the energy pricing mechanism.
