Abstract

The paper contains two parts. The first part is studying the a-decay half-lives of newly synthesized superheavy nuclei with the Generalized Liquid Drop Model connected with WKB approximation. The second part is predicting the a-decay half-lives of superheavy nuclei which have not been synthesis. The a-decay of nuclei was interpreted as a quantum tunneling effect of the a-particle through a potential barrier. Since then various theoretical models have been developed. Among these models, the Generalized Liquid Drop Model proposed by G. Royer in 1980s is one of the models which are used to describe the a-decay process successfully. In this article the generalized liquid drop model has been introduced and discussed, and the half-lives of the newly synthesized superheavy nuclei starting from 294118,291116,263Hs and 260Bh have been studied. The results of the calculations show the fact of proximity energy affect the a-decay half-lives of superheavy nuclei significantly. The results calculated by using the generalized liquid drop model agree with the experimental data very well, so it can be concluded that the generalized liquid drop model can be applied in the studying on the a-decay half-lives of superheavy nuclei superheavy nuclei successfully. In the article, the a-decay half-lives of Z=118 and 116 isotopes which have not been synthesis have also been predicted. The result of calculating imply that there maybe some long-lived superheavy nuclei for a-decay in those isotopes.
