Abstract

Enhanced Data Rates for GSM Evolution (Enhanced Data rates for GSM Evolution, EDGE) technology is an enhanced GSM modulation standard, using a rotary octal (3π/8-8PSK) phase shift keying modulation scheme , and its main advantage is to provide the higher data transfer rate . In addition , EDGE provides a transition from GPRS to the third generation mobile communication solutions , allowing network operators to maximize the use of existing wireless network equipment . To solve the 8PSK phase GMSK higher peak to average ratio (Peak to Average Ratio) of arising require a higher linearity of the RF power amplifier , which makes the problem of less than ideal performance in terms of efficiency , polarization modulation may be employed design approach to achieve high efficiency and low power requirements . Because polarization modulation using the saturation mode, the RF circuit and a power amplifier designed to modulation linear , but non - constant envelope modulated signal (Non-constant Envelop) , thus reducing the current , and improve efficiency. Applied to the EDGE system polarization transmitter RF front-end design, including the multiplier and after a drive amplifier . The whole system working at 900MHz, 1.8V power supply . All devices in 0.18μm CMOS process simulation, the simulation results show that the multiplier and driver amplifier to achieve the maximum output power of 4.5dBm, the minimum output power of -30dBm, -163dBc/Hz, in 400KHz offset at 20MHz offset the total output noise adjacent channel power rejection (Adjacent Channel Power Ratio, ACPR) - 63dBc second-order and third-order harmonic suppression than -46dBc and -39dBc and carrier suppression ratio - 45dBc , the total dynamic power consumption of the system for 23 to 56mA, depending on the gain level .
