Abstract


The phenomenon of Chinese conversion words is a prominent grammatical issue foreign student’s encounter while learning Chinese language. In order to help Kenyan students and students from other English-speaking countries have a better grasp and understanding of conversion words, the paper first presents a whole count of conversion words in both Applied Chinese Dictionary《应用汉语词典》and Oxford Advanced Learner’s Dictionary 7th Edition dictionaries respectively. Then it gives a detailed quantitative analysis as well description of major grammatical functions of English-Chinese conversion words and their differences. The paper further makes comparative study by eliciting some key sentences to arouse learners’attention. Finally, this paper analyzes some of the difficult areas student face while learning Chinese language.
