Research on Status Quo of White Collar Youth’s Social Capital and Its Influence on Subjective Well-being

Abstract


Social capital refers to the networks it based on trust, reciprocity, mutual help. Individual or organization can gain different resource and support through the membership networks. Subjective well-being refers to a person’s own assessment of their happiness and satisfaction with life.In this study, We investigated white-collar of social capital in Chongqing municipality through the method of questionnaire survey and structure interviewing. We exploited the current situation of white-collar of social capital and their Subjective Well-being; exploring the associations between social capital and Subjective Well-being. Findings and conclusions of the study are described as below:(1) White collar youth’s size of social network is not big, but it is high quality, they can get high-quality resource from their social network. white collar youth’s density of social network is not great, it have high-heterogeneity, they place emphasis upon the communication among friends of their generation. white collar youth have high reciprocity and social support, they can get resource and support from their social network; social participation of white collar youth is low, it will influence their social capital, directly; white collar youth have a high trust and safety feeling.(2) The index of white collar youth subjective well-being is 3.00 in the medium level. The scores points of life satisfaction degree is 2.91.,it lower than medium level. The scores points of positive emotion experience is 3.35,the negative emotion experience is 2.16.The index of overall emotion well-being index is 3.10, higher than the life satisfaction. (3) Social capital factors:social network, social participation, trust and safety feeling all have significant positive relationship with Subjective Well-being. The four factors of social capital have positive relationship with positive emotion experience; reciprocity and social support, social participation, trust and safety feeling have negative relationship with negative emotion experience.(4) The notable positive correlativity between social capital and Subjective Well-being; rich social capital can help white collar youth improve Subjective Well-being.(5) The notable positive correlativity between social network and Subjective Well-being; great social network can help white collar youth improve Subjective Well-being.(6) The notable positive correlativity between reciprocity and social support and Subjective Well-being; high reciprocity and social support can help white collar youth improve Subjective Well-being.(7) The notable positive correlativity between social participation and Subjective Well-being; rich social participation can help white collar youth improve Subjective Well-being.(8) The notable positive correlativity between trust and safety feeling and Subjective Well-being; high trust and safety feeling can help white collar youth improve Subjective Well-being.
