Abstract


Because the development of information communication tools and the extensive application of information resources, we enter a new period which has the interactive character. The information resources are more important during the development of society, and archives have more opportunities and challenges for it is a important constituent of information resources.University archives is a component of social service system of the archives, it also a element of university- a hub of culture and science, so it has the dual responsibility to serve the community and universities. As the forefront of technological and cultural development, Universities are also the pioneer to implement of new ideas, new tools, so study the development strategy of university archives department in the new period can give some useful suggestions to other kinds of archives.Firstly, this paper focus on the new demands of university archives in the new period, including the demands from rapid development of information technology, diversification of user needs, as well as the expansion of universities.Secondly, the paper analyzes the history and present situation of the service work of university archives. It studies the way and scope of university archives services, then it analyzes the gap between the needs and present situation of the service work of university archives. After that, it points that the quality of archivists as well as the web site there is still much to be desired.Thirdly, the paper analyzes the opportunities of the service work of university archives in the new period. The policies of archive informatization, archive opening and the latest NO.27 policy are all enhance the social recognition of the value of archival work, these polices are also stipulate the content of information construction and the source of fund. All these are providing a good basis for the construction of archive informatization. Then the paper use the analytical approach of SWOT analysis, considering the responsibility and aim of the service work of university archives, the paper points that the archives have to draw a ovperiodll planning to optimize the segments of the service work of university archives.In the end of this paper, it has drawn a specific strategy to help the university archives to deal with the new period challenges. Priorities should be given to the construction of university cultural and the exploitation of alumni resources. Also it has to enrich and improve the service ways, and strengthen the supporting infrastructure of the service work of university archives.
