Othodontic Treatment of Anterior Crossbite Malocclusion in Adult with the Multiloop Edgewise Arch Wire Technique

Abstract


Objective:To Evaluate the orthodontic treatment effects of anterior crossbite withⅡ°crowding by multiloop edgewise arch wire technique.Methods:A female case with anterior crossbite andⅡ°crowding was selected from Dalian Ortho clinic in 2006,who was 18-year-old 6 months,normal maxilla and mandibular protrusion,Ⅱ°crowding in upper, anterior crossbite.The patient were orthodontic treated with multiloop edgewise arch wire (MEAW) technology,comparison of the prepost orthodontic treatment cephalometric radiograph had been done after maxillary protraction an MEAW was applied for the patient.Results:The course of orthodontical treatment is 25 months. Compared the changes between pre-treatment and pro-treatment:ClassⅢskeletal facial profile was improved:SNA increased 1.15°, SNB decreased 2.05°, so ANB increased 3.2°; There were significant changes in dentition, the angle of L1/NB decrease from 28.49°to 24°. The distance of U1-FHV increased 3 mm, and L1-Xi decreased 1 mm, L1-MP increased 3 mm, U1-PP increased 1 mm. The angle of L6/MP increased 7°, the angle of OP/MP increased by 7.5°. The distance of U6-PP increased by 1.5 mm, and the distance of L6-MP increased by 0.5 mm, and L6-Xi decreased 1.5 mm. The angle of MP/SN increased from 35.02°to 37.5°. The mandibular plane was slightly clockwise rotation. Expectant effect was obtained in the case with the correction of midline. The profile of soft tissue didn’t improved significantly. The patient and her parents were satisfied with the result of orthotherapy after treatment. Conclusions:Anterior crossbite with midrange crowding in adults can be treated successfully. The results can be satisfied from the improved:classIⅢskeletal and anterior overjet and overbite.
