Abstract

Pen and ink hold the extremely important status in the traditional Chinese painting. Not only pen and ink is one material and one kind of technique, but is an important aspect in the esthetic special characteristic of the traditional Chinese painting. It is manifesting the Chinese style social culture and the esthetic values. Through China artists unremittingly pursue to pen and ink in lots and lots years, now what presents in front of us is set of complete techniques and the esthetic standard. Along with the time development, the modern pen and ink will also present different characteristic with the former. While this time is a multi-dimensional time, the cluster modern factor entered the traditional Chinese painting’s performance domain, but how traditional pen and ink which grew under the specific cultural context should display these contemporary themes?This article is for the purpose of elaborating the understanding and the comprehension of the modern expression’s form of Chinese painting’s traditional pen and ink. Firstly, it briefly analyzes the traditional pen and ink language’s developed process and the growth environment. Through the history is researched it anticipated a clearer understanding to the modern art condition. Secondly, it elaborates the traditional pen and ink and the contemporary theme often to form a pair of contradictory. The stylization pen and ink may promote the quality of the painting, but after the traditional pen and ink form the convention, it in turn affects and limits to the expression of the contemporary theme. When the traditional pen and ink what is produced in the generation that has the huge difference age with the present generation shows the contemporary theme, it encounters the difficult position and still adapts in the contemporary theme’s aspect.Finally, it bases on the viewpoint that when time changes, pen and ink changes. In the modern society of the tends to the same in our this world culture, of the economical rapid development, of the science and technology changing with each new day, of multi-dimensional social culture, of people’s multi-dimensional thought, the traditional Chinese pen and ink loads history technique and the esthetic standard, seeks unceasingly suit the performance form of the modern society, unceasingly abandons the certain languages what is not suitable to show contemporary theme, blends together this national and the external nationality’s outstanding element, makes up the performance of the modern emotion and the modern thought insufficiency. The modern pen and ink already have the very big breakthrough with the pen, the ink and the color aspect.The modern pen and ink have redefined“the strength of spirit”which the traditional pen and ink is fastidious. It emphasizes to the pen and ink’s“tension”, emphasized its constitution and picture overall effect, emphasized its intuition expressive force. It promulgates modern people’s survival condition and the inner world by the new words, and brims with the displaying self-fervor. Through it expresses the surmounting technique, the modern pen and ink shows the modern concern beyond the technique.In the modern Chinese painting, it has one kind of trend of development. It takes the ink as basis. It strengthens subjective and imaginary color utilization. It uses more color language to portray the image than the color is in the traditional ink and wash painting. The modern pen and ink will follow this artistic law, via the time’s accumulation, and develop to rise to the stylization level. It will become posterity’s tradition.What this article attempt to integrate is how the traditional Chinese pen and ink enter the modern society, and what types of it present in the modern age.
