Abstract

Grammatical Metaphor (hereinafter referred to as GM) theory is system function linguist Halliday pioneered. In 1985 he published \In Halliday and other domestic and foreign well-known scholars on grammatical metaphor theory based on the results, this paper uses both qualitative and quantitative research method of combining tried: 1) parsing Halliday 1996 after the correction of grammatical metaphor theory the main content, presenting author on grammatical metaphor Reclassification and functionality made some aspects of insight, analyzing its significance and defects; 2) Application Halliday language domain theory, language domain with grammatical metaphor relations and international business contracts language domain and linguistic characteristics; 3) Statistical Analysis 36 International Business Metaphors contract types and distribution; 4) explore the international business contracts grammatical metaphor concept, interpersonal and textual features and grammatical metaphor for the contracting parties and the writers of significance. The results show that a) Halliday 1996 after grammatical metaphor reclassified greatly broadens the grammatical metaphor conceptual extension, more in line with human cognitive development of the law, but the classification exists for adjectives of, deputy Prepositionization, verbalization as well as other types of nouns insufficient attention to other defects. 2) grammatical metaphor is not confined to technological discourse, but also in business, law and other articles were written abstract. 3) There are three International Business Contracts special syntax metaphor, namely: the phenomenon of acronyms nouns, adjectives passive phenomenon, as well as some of the archaic words of Vice preposition phenomenon. 4) degree of formality and complexity of the contract the higher the degree, the higher the degree of grammatical metaphor. 5) In order to convert part of speech classification grammatical metaphor among the highest degree of nouns, followed by: adjective oriented, vice Prepositionization and verbalization. 6) in international business contracts, the concept of grammatical metaphor functions to increase the technical and textual information density; interpersonal discourse functions to increase the objectivity, formality, solemnity and fairness; discourse function increases the discourse logic, accuracy and consistency. As Metaphor increase the difficulty of understanding the contract, the contracting parties and therefore writers should learn and grasp the international business contract metaphor, to avoid misunderstanding caused economic losses.
