Abstract

Since its discovery of carbon nanotubes, because of its unique structure (such as high specific surface area and the spiral structure), excellent performance (such as electrical, mechanical and optical) as well as potential applications in the field of materials, causing widespread concern researchers. However, a strong interaction between carbon nanotubes and insoluble in any solvent, which greatly restricts its application. Therefore, the carbon nanotubes modified to improve its base in a solvent and the dispersion is of great significance. In this paper, starch covalently grafted onto the surface of carbon nanotubes prepared by means of a new composite material starch grafted carbon nanotubes. By infrared spectroscopy, and carbon nanotubes that the starch by covalent bonds. Carbon at 265nm UV spectrum showed absorption peaks appeared at, and the absorption peak intensity is proportional to the concentration of the carbon nanotube, to meet the Lambert-Beer's law. Transmission electron microscopy showed that starch covalently bonded carbon nanotube core - shell structure, carbon nanotubes are wrapped in a thick layer of polymer chains. Thermal gravimetric analysis of carbon nanotubes grafted starch provides a quantitative analysis. This method improves the covalent grafting of CNTs with starch binding force between the two phases, the carbon nanotubes in water with good dispersion. For the carbon nanotubes used in water treatment, to further prepare the CNT / Fe 3 O 4 composite material, the carbon nanotubes magnetic, in practical applications easy to operate, saves manpower and resources. Transmission electron microscopy and X-ray analysis showed that: starch grafted carbon nanotubes on Fe 3 O 4 crystals smaller particles, evenly distributed, and the acidification of carbon nanotubes The Fe 3 O 4 crystals larger particles were clusters state. This may be related to carbon nanotubes on the surface of the starch molecule chain. The CNT / Fe 3 O 4 adsorbent for the adsorption of methyl orange, methylene blue, and heavy metal ions (Cr 3 , Pb 2 , Cu 2 ) and other experimental results showed that: carbon adsorption capacity significantly improved, and the starch-functionalized carbon nanotubes before and after the adsorption of the two dyes are available quasi- two adsorption kinetic models are described. Various results showed that: carbon nanotubes grafted starch significantly improved compared to the acidification of the water-soluble carbon nanotubes, and this method is not modified carbon nanotubes has been severely damaged.
