In this thesis, a new alcohol is converted to chlorinated hydrocarbons . Experiment with a small amount of DMSO as the catalyst , anhydrous chloroform as solvent , the role of N-phenyl- saccharin chloride , benzyl alcohol is converted to a chlorinated hydrocarbon , for different types of benzyl alcohol , the experiment explored the impact reaction of various factors, and to find the appropriate reaction conditions , and further improve the yield of the reaction . The experiments show that for different benzyl alcohol , DMSO dosage 0.05 equivalent , N - phenyl saccharin chloride dosage between 2 to 3 equivalents , the temperature was controlled at room temperature , the reaction time of 2-4 days in a yield of 54 ~ 82 %. When the eight kinds of benzyl alcohol as a reaction substrate , the reaction was carried out under the appropriate conditions , which showed that 1 - benzyloxy- phenyl ethanol as the raw material , the reaction time was 2 days , 1 - p-bromophenyl ethanol for 3 days , yields were 76% and 82 % , respectively , higher yield , shorter reaction time ; 1 - 4 days fluorophenyl ethanol reaction time , the yield was 54 % lower yield , reaction time longer ; this shows that the benzene ring substituted by the electron density on the base have a certain influence on the reaction rate and yield , the higher the reaction rate of the electron density is correspondingly faster , the higher the yield , whereas the rates are slower , low yield . The alcohol conversion Chlorides from the above that this method will be the yield is higher , mild reaction conditions , the reaction time is shorter , the alcohol is an effective and gentle chlorinated new method .
