In china, the modern era records of architectural heritage survey started with 1920s, and it has developed nearly 90 years. So far, however, as the most important part of the Academic research and protection project, the record documentation work is not satisfactory with many problems. It is worth analysis and improvement. In view of that, this article reviews the development of the architectural heritage recording in United Kingdom and United States and that of China, and then based on investigating the current situation of the architectural heritage recording and acquiring the opinion and propositions of professionals and managers of heritage protection, this article analyses the current obvious problems from the aspect of administrative, implementation, results-management, employees, technical etc. For example, the recording work is legal, but not implemented effectively; lacking a full-time professional organization; the relative independent status of practical operation is vague and arbitrary; no normal standards; funding shortage; results scattered; using and sharing are such difficult.Accordingly, this article presents suggestion that setting up a professional full-time body and charge standard for recording,increasing funds, establishing effective mechanism for results share, enhancing communication and cooperation among specialties and recording units, promoting public participation, creating normative document for record technology, and establishing a comprehensive and dynamic measured survey and recording system.
