Abstract

Objective To describe the development status of low birth weight children aged 0 to 6 stages of physical, neurological, behavioral and social adaptation, its age trends, and investigate the effects of low birth weight children's physical growth and neurobehavioral development for the rich index system and evaluation stage of growth and development of children taken to provide the basis for targeted interventions. Methods The subjects from a Maternal and Child Health Hospital of Tongling City, Anhui Province in June 2000 to June 2006, the establishment of a birth cohort, collate and collect related information for each member in the queue, using a nested case-control epidemiological methods on 8 October 2006, a follow-up observation. Accessed via telephone, mail and door appointments to the birth weight of the 124 cases of urban hukou 1500 ~ 2500g single tire low birth weight (low birth weight, LBW) children, male 53 cases, female 71 cases, including premature birth-age low birth weight children 63 cases of premature small for gestational age, 15 cases, 46 cases of full-term small for gestational age. Select in accordance with 1:1 match of the same sex, the same nationality, birth time difference of not more than one month, full-term normal weight children living in the same area as a control. Own questionnaire collected two sets of demographic characteristics of children and their parents, families and the state of the environment, and measured the children's height / length, weight, head circumference and chest circumference indicators, using the Z-score method to assess the level of children's physical development. Neurodevelopmental assessment using the Beijing intellectual development Collaborative Group revised Gesell Developmental Diagnostic Scale (Gesell development diagnosis scale, GDDS), Beijing Medical University, left Qihua revised \adaptive behavior assessment. Conners Parent symptom questionnaire (parents symptom questionnaire, PSQ), reflecting the common psychological and behavioral problems in children 3 to 6 years old. Measurement data using a paired t-test or a group t test and physical development indicators, analysis of covariance; count data using the the pairing χ2 test or two samples rank sum test. Children's height, weight and age analysis using Pearson correlation and linear regression analysis. And multiple correspondence analysis, to explore the different effects of low birth weight children's physical, neurological, behavioral and social adaptability. The overall level of physical development of the children of the LBW group lagged behind normal children, there is a certain gap between growth in height and weight and normal children. LBW head circumference and chest circumference developmental impact is not obvious. Children's height and weight growth was positively correlated with age. Deviations in the LBW child's growth and development is obvious, the detection rate of low birth weight compared with NBW group were significantly different. LBW group children in five energy region of the developmental quotient (adaptive, gross motor, fine motor, language, social interaction) are lower than the NBW group further grouped by age 3 years of age, fine motor, social interaction energies no significant difference between the two groups. LBW group children's social adaptability scores were significantly lower than the NBW group of children, and poor social adaptability and marginalized children significantly more than the NBW group;, LBW group behavior, impulsive hyperactivity index - hyperactivity NBW group scored significantly higher than the three factors and conduct problems, and the LBW group behavioral problems detection rate was significantly higher than that of the control group. Both LBW children of school age or LBW children small for gestational age, height, weight and development are lagging behind normal children; low birth weight, neurodevelopmental defects, poor social adaptability and abnormal behavior detection rate in different types of LBW children no significant differences between Multiple correspondence analysis, exploratory data again. Correspondence analysis diagram shows the different developmental outcomes and birth weight closer links, the results showed that: a normal birth weight children are more prone to social adaptability, weight and development normal outcome, LBW group of children prone to abnormal behavior and low weight outcome. Conclusion both premature LBW children or children with full-term sample, due to low birth weight in the 0 to 6 years of age, their physical development generally lagged behind the normal birth weight children prone to behavioral problems, neurological and social adaptability The development is also behind the children with normal birth weight. LBW children easier to outcome in preschool behavioral abnormalities and low birth weight. LBW children with low birth weight and behavioral problems for research scholars, practitioners and social concern.
