In traditional settlements, there is preservation of historical memory and national feelings, cultural origins. To understand the traditional settlements better, to make the profound philosophy and wisdom known better which are contained in the understanding of the traditional village and its architectural monomer, and to enrich topics of traditional village research in our country, this thesis, from the architectural angle, focuses on Nuodeng village and analyzes its rich spatial form, construction monomer, street space, detail characteristics and thoughts of building construction which are brilliant, unsophisticated, and practical and are transmitted everywhere in that village. Nuodeng, an ancient name of the village, is very old. There are many types of construction there of high quality and well-structured. The settlement basically preserves the traditional style well. Nuodeng village has its own unique process of emergence and development, and special characteristics of space.In the history of the Nuodeng village, its emergence, development, and decline are intrinsically linked with salt. Its specific historical background and the terrain environment make the form of Nuodeng rich, the culture profound, talented people numerous, and good constructions a lot. Culture of well salt plays a profound impact on everything here:from the settlement patterns to construction monomer and its details, even people’s beliefs.In this thesis, the first and the second chapter are about basic research. The first chapter chiefly elaborates the research background, research purposes and research methods. The second chapter focuses on Nuodeng village of the natural environment, historical background, religious beliefs and so on. From the third to the fifth chapters are the key parts of this thesis. The third and the fourth chapters conduct thorough analysis and make a conclusion according to the generation of Nuodeng village, the characteristics of village forms, features of internal space forms, construction monomer, and the detail characteristics. The fifth Chapter illustrates the value of Nuodeng village, puts forward the problems, and points out the prospect of future development in Nuodeng village.This thesis is a research of Nuodeng’s Vernacular Architecture. Summary no longer focuses on the layout of a typical way. On the contrary, it puts emphasis on "Finding the differences". That is, as far as possible, to identify some examples of non-model. The paper reveals that settlement patterns of Nuodeng are rich, residential construction are not all in the same model. It will become colorful with the change of terrain environment, production activities; even the literature tutelage and economic levels of its master.As a result of the production activities, the geographical environment, the different customs of life, Nuodeng Village and its construction monomer have a colorful character.
