Abstract


Universal design is a new kind of design theory developed with rapidly growing concern on the disabled in Japan, USA and other countries in Europe, which has drawn more attention in product design in recent years. However, Universal design in our country has a late start and the knowledge to this filed is quite limited for a vital of companies and designers.In this thesis, the community information service kiosks in Hangzhou are studied based on the definition of universal design principles, research methods and the review of present situation, in order to solve the problem in community products design. The research will combine with universal design theory, design psychology, ergonomics and other related knowledge, to analysis the physical and psychological characteristics of the various users systematically. The problems existing in the community information service kiosks will be discovered through expert user interview, research survey and operation observation, and then make a statistical analysis to the results of the research and find the key problems. According to the results of the research analysis, this thesis proposes universal design principles and methods to community information service kiosks, as well as provides a deep exploration on this type of public products at the end.This research makes different capacities of the users while using community information service kiosks as the research objects and is based on the importance of users’requirements and the relationship of design solutions. Therefore, this research method is quite beneficial to the universal design on public products.
