Abstract


On one hand, in response to global climate change, the concept of sustainable development of green traffic emerged as the times require. As travel modes of slow traffic, walking and cycling are highly respected at the highest level of green traffic. On the other hand, a large number of cars entering families, it brings convenience but leads to the deteriorations of resident environment and the loss of domestic emotion. Therefore, from the macro-concepts of green traffic’s sustainable development to the micro-demands of improving the resident environment, the methods of constructing the slow traffic system of settlements should be under consideration systematically.According to the demands of slow walkers, the article studies on the slow traffic system of urban settlements and bring forward the targets of the slow traffic system. On the basis of the targets, author explores construction methods of slow traffic system at the level of urban design by establishing and analysing the influence factors of slow traffic system.First, it interprets contemporary plights of slow traffic system of urban settlement which include three aspects: the deficiency of system, the poor quality of environment and a lack of rational coordination with motorized transport system.It also establishes the necessity of constructing the slow traffic system of settlements from environmental, economic and social benefits . Then it reviews the related theoretical model and policy evolution of slow traffic system of foreign settlements.Then, according to the demands of the slow walkers, the targets of constructing slow traffic system should be available, security, convenient, comfortable and free. Under the goals, the article establishes the construction objects which are traffic organization system, spatial landscape system and environment facility system. In this article, activities of slow walkers, the physical environment of slow traffic system and the urban natural conditions are analysed as the main influence factors of constructing slow traffic system of settlements.Finally, based on the studies above ,it proposes the principles of the slow traffic system construction are systemic, humanistic, diversity and respect for the ecological. Guided by the principles above , the network, the design ideas of landscape and the requirements of the environment facilities of slow traffic system are proposed.The network organization strategy should organize the slow region, the slow path, the nodes and connect the public transport system . The design ideas of spatial landscape system of slow traffic include full using of natural landscape, creating the artificial landscape with characteristics and grubbing history and cultural landscape.The requirements of the environment facility system should meet the needs of humanity, in line with the principles of beauty in form and fit the characteristics of residential areas.
