Abstract


From the Guangxu "Local Records of Xiangtan County", we can visualise the general social situations of Xiangtan during the whole time of the Qing Dynasty .In detail, Xiangtan County of Qing Dynasty rooted in an excellent location , which was rich in natural resources and flourishing in great road and river transport,formed the network system of water facilities and transportation which having a large scale and covering a wide range.The good irrigationa and traffic conditions played a positive role in the development of its agricultural and commercial economy .So an unique "binary pattern of economic development" and a "city and countryside market network system" which covering the throughout county were taken shape.That had established a rank of "strong one in charge of the county" and the commercial center.For the development of socio-economic had provided powerful financial support for the prosperity of its culture, education, civil service exams, writers statement and mutual prosperity of faith that the people worshiped had came into being.In all, The Xiangtan County is a regional society with special position and characteristics during the time of Qing Dynasty.
