Abstract


Ad Hoc Networks is the temporary multihop autonomous system which is composed of the mobile terminal with radio module. The mobile terminal that prossess routing function can make up any topology network.On the one hand, in wireless Ad Hoc networks, the physical layer, data link layer and network layer’s system energy consumption is the key about energy efficiency. Therefore, in considering the issue of energy efficiency, you can combine these layers, from the viewpoint of network cross-layer optimization to reduce energy consumption, achieve to maximize the purpose of network life cycle.Based on the theory of cross-layer optimization, this paper proposes an EA-AODV (Energy-aware Based Cross-layer AODV) routing protocol. The EA-AODV routing protocol adopts cross-layer mechanism and energy metric to improve AODV routing protocol which can reduce the energy consumption and then prolong the life cycle of the whole network. In EA-AODV, the link layer and the routing layer work together to choose the optimized transmission power for nodes and the least energy consumption route for packets. The simulation result shows that EA-AODV can outperform AODV to save more energy. It can prolong the network life cycle by about 9% over traditional AODV routing algorithm.On the other hand, node deployment is a fundamental issue in WSNs that affects many facets of network operation, including routing, power management, security, etc. At present, many papers propose different optimal deployment strategies in variety of the degree of coverage with network connectivity, but to the best of our knowledge, no yet work has been reported that compares and studies the performance in those scenarios. Therefore, this paper is a performance analysis of two node deployments strategy proposed for Wireless Sensors Networks. One is random node deployment strategy and the other is optimal node deployment strategy to achieve four connectivity and full coverage. Extensive simulations are made on different scenarios where different ratios of sensors’communication range (denoted by rc ) to their sensing range (denoted by rs ). A novel simulation model is used to study two node deployment strategies and their performance implications. This experiment not only presents the results of the optimal node deployment strategy can provide significant benefits to WSNs in terms of minimize cost and communication overhead, but also the performance differentials are analyzed using a series of varying network topology in terms of degree of coverage, degree of network connectivity, and routing performance metrics.
