The application scopes of complex shape and structure parts are becoming wider and wider. The demands for complex shape and structure parts are becoming more and more stringent in both military and civil fields. Some optic systems with the special imaging effect can just be realized when the complex shape parts or complex structure parts are applied. These parts with both complex shape surfaces and micro structures can’t be machined by traditional machining process with high efficiency and high accuracy. As the Fast Tool Servo (FTS) process technology with long distance and high response is a novel machining process capable of machining complex shape and structure parts accurately, and it has become a research hotspot.In the dissertation, the devices and techniques of FTS system are studied in order to machining complex shape and structure parts. The main contents are expressed as follow:1) The characteristics of machining process of complex shape and structure parts by FTS are analyzed and the method of controlling tool-paths is researched. Base on these analysis and research, the scheme of FTS system is designed.2) The structure of FTS system is analyzed which is driven by the voice coil motor, and the coupling model of mechanics and electricity is founded. The control system of FTS is designed by using analog controller and PMAC respectively, and the works are the foundation for all-numerical control about the FTS. After this, the movement performances are tested and analyzed.3) On the basis of analyzing the influences of machine tool’s geometrical errors on the accuracy of FTS, the performances of slide and spindle are tested and analyzed.4) A typical complex structure part is machined by FTS system. According to experimental results, some improving methods are presented.
