As an important part of smart home and intelligent building, access control system has been paid more attention. But the market of access control system is disordered, and lacks of unified standard. Therefore, with the continuous expansion of applications, the economical and practical access control systems with brilliant feature will have an encouraging prospect for development.The strong point and weak point of traditional embedded access control system and the characteristics of ZigBee short-range wireless communications are analyzed. Based on the current situation of the widespread use of the second generation ID cards, an access control system with the organic integration of the embedded system, second- generation ID card reader and ZigBee technology is designed. In this dissertation an access controller based on second-generation ID card reader is realized.What we mainly do in this thesis includes:1. The components and the platform of the embedded access control system are analyzed. The hardware, the software and the development environment of the access controller is introduced.2. Schematic design of access controller hardware including the power supply, microprocessor, ID card reader and ZigBee interface is presented in detail.3. The platform realization of the embedded access controller system about the migration process of U-boot and Linux kernel, the development process of Linux device drivers is presented. The driver design of Second-generation ID card reader is studied in detail.4. The presentation of the application of ZigBee technology in access control system is emphasized. The process of establishing ZigBee network and the process of addressing and routing is studied in detail. The frame design which is used in the communication between application layer and ZigBee module is described and tested. Finally, the implementation of power management for ZigBee modules is presented.According to the test, the performance of the whole system meets the design requirements. The access control system possesses advantages of high-level security, hard real-time property, easy installation and so on.
