With the increasing need of kinds of network service, multi-homing technology developed rapidly recent years. In order to improve the performance of Internet, such as reliability, loading balance, preference setting, more and more research focuses on implement of new multi-homing technology.This paper relies on the project "Universal Network and pervasive Service", which is a project of National Basic Research Program (973). Universal network is a kind of new network architecture, which can divide into two layers: network layer and service layer. It introduces Identity and location separation mechanism, and provides pervasive service. In order to introduce multi-homing technology in Universal network, IDentifier Server (IDS) and Access Switch Router (ASR) should make some improvement.This paper researches the multi-homing technology, designs and implements a host multi-homing communication protocol in Universal network. Firstly, we introduce multi-homing technology, and give a definition of multi-home in Universal network. Secondly, this paper analyzed multi-homing host communication in Universal network, and presents the objective of the protocol: 1) provide supports for communication in Universal network. 2) Implement the network traffic load balance, so it can provide better network service. Thirdly, implement the multi-homing protocol. 1) In order to improve the efficiency of querying, the implementation introduce Hash table to store information. 2) Provides an interface to set the parameter and check information. 3) Use multi-thread technology to improve the capacity of server. 4) Introduce uniform format of message. Fourthly, the paper make a system function test the multi-homing protocol for different scenes. The result of test shows that the implementation can achieve the aim of the multi-homing protocol. The success of implementation lays a foundation for future work in Universal network.At the end, we summarize works of the paper. On the base of the understanding of Universal network and multi-home, the paper shows some applications of multi-homing technology in Universal network.
