Video image interpolation techniques have comprehensive applications in the fields of video image processing and analysis, the accuracy and efficiency of interpolation directly influence the following treatments. Airborne display system needs to handle digital maps for zooming and upgrading the frame rate of extravehicular surveillance video. The investigation on these backgrounds is still relatively small, and this is one of the key techniques to advance the battle effectiveness in a new generation of fighter plane.This paper has made deeply research on video image interpolation algorithms, especially in airborne display system. First, it introduces the video image interpolation techniques and motion estimation techniques, and expounds the elements and calculate methods, also analyses their characteristics; second, in order to zoom the digital map, it presents a new interpolation algorithm in one frame, which based on content division of image in HSV space. In order to upgrade the frame rate of extravehicular surveillance video, it presents a new interpolation algorithm between frames. Extensive experiments. show that the new algorithms improve the treatment effect and time complexity of interpolation, and they can feed on the need of airborne display system.
