With the developing of network application, XML have already been a de facto standard for information exchange among various applications on the World Wide Web. As the popularizing of XML, it becomes not only a data exchanging method, but also a representation language for permanent data in application programs. Therefore,how to effectively store and query these rapidly multiplying data amount brings a great challenge to the XML database technology research.In the process of studying XML database technology, the main works includes:Having profoundly studied several existing XML indices, especially compared and summarized some typical structural coding schemes and index graph schemes.On the basis of analyzing and studying current index techniques, putting forward a SD-VX index scheme which combines structure coding and value index. This scheme reserves all the information of the original XML document, including document’s structure, sequence and content, by which the query can be performed without the original XML document and the results will maintain the original order.Having designed a Native XML database prototype system. Using the file system storage technology and our SD-VX index mechanism, the system has the fundamental functions of storing, renewing and querying XML document.
