Based on investigation on the utilization and spatial distribution of landscape plants in Taiyuan City, the existing main problems were analyzed and some basic principles and views about green trees in city planning. Counter measures to upgrade the level of species utilization were discussed in the course of building Taiyuan.First of all, it mastered by analysis of existing tree species in Taiyuan and the application of native trees and application effect and analyzed various types of tree species growth. The results showed that the existing landscaping in Taiyuan 219 species, 29 varieties, 18 cultivars, 14 variants, total of 280 species (including varieties, forms, and the same below), which grew well in 256 species Including 53 families , 105 spp. There were126 trees, 80 shrubs, 12 species of lianas and bamboo 1 species, Etc.. The proportion of tree and shrub species was 1.81:1.Secondly, the five existing problems were analyzed including species more but diversity not high in some areas, inappropriate species selection, plant configuration disorder, the form of dull green, the lack of style and other issues.Thirdly, with combination of reality of Taiyuan, it proposed five basic principles about species selection and applications, namely: the main native species, actively introducing suitable species; and so on.Based on the foregoing analysis, the fourth proposed plan views for Taiyuan urban landscape .
