Abstract Field test was conducted in order to investigate the effects of limiting the quantity of water supply and phosphorus on growth and yield of winter wheat in semi-arid area. The results showed that, the yield, biomass and tiller were all increased along with the improvement of soil moisture. The use of phosphorus fertilizer is far better compared to others; while the difference between high content P205 and low content P205 was not quite obvious. Coupling of water and fertilizer was notable and showed reciprocal cross. Water use efficiency was decreased if water supply increased. Deficit water supply could properly help improve water use efficiency and then higher output and benefit would be gained. In the semi- arid area where there is lack of phosphorus, the utilization coefficient of phosphate fertilizer in the corresponding season would not decrease when its content increased; while it would decrease when water was normally supplied. During the growing period of winter wheat, the content of phosphorus in the soil would increase correspondingly as the application of phosphate increased. And it would ebb and flow consistently in the different growing period of winter wheat.
