Objective: To analyze from 2000 to 2009 in our hospital birth defects (birth defect, BD) the incidence, types, constitute ratio and impact factors and lessons learned 10 years in our hospital BD especially NTDs intervention of is to further reduce the incidence of BD , provide the basis for the implementation of the BD intervention and the development of eugenics policies. Methods: Retrospective analysis method, based on birth defects Manual 23 BD definition and diagnostic criteria, Changzhi Medical College Affiliated Peace Hospital from 2000 to 2009 the number of births (pregnant at least 28 weeks of birth 7 days after the perinatal including stillbirth), BD, neural tube defects (neural tube defects NTDs), according to the gender of the children with BD, mother's age and place of residence, folic acid supplementation in pregnant women (Folic acid FA) , Shanxi and Hunan BD incidence for statistical analysis. :2000-2009, our hospital birth number 16741, were found in BD 228 cases in children, the the BD total incidence rate of 136.19 / 000, of which 139 cases of children with NTDs, accounting for the total number of 60.96% of BD, the incidence rate of NTDs 83.03 / million, the highest in the first place. 10 years, our hospital BD incidence of NTDs incidence declined. BD there is a significant difference (p lt; 0.05) between urban and rural areas. Mother BD incidence of different ages differ ,25-29-year-old mother, fertility BD children with the lowest percentage (76.90 / 000), the mothers who are over the age of 35 the proportion of children with BD (2500/000), the difference was statistically significant (P lt; 0.001).
