To its core as minority group code, this dissertation makes a diachronic description of literature by writers with Tujia minority in 60 years since 1949, putting writings of Sun Jianzhong, Cai Cehai, and Tian’er as its center, who are Tujia writers respectively represent the three different periods. As a case study, we analyze the different expressions of construction, reconstruction, and deconstruction of ethnic code of Tujia minority in the three writers’works, present their reasons, and make a deep thinking about the pros and cons and the direction of their writings. To sum up, the final purpose of this study is to finding out the historical development of Tujia’s writings, and to grasp its whole development trend, values, and ideas.Sun Jianzhong is one of Tujia writers between 1950s and 1960s, whose literature works expressed a trend of constructing ethnic code of Tujia minority in two aspects: portraying geographical scenery, showing folk custom, shaping Tujia characters, carrying on and promoting ethnic Tujia ethos, carrying up the history of Tujia literature, and exercising their own language.Writers in the 1970s and 1980s, represented by Cai Cehai, showed some doubts about constructing the ethnic code of Tujia minority. Their thoughts in their works can be concluded as from“go away from”to“go back to”the ethnic tradition, that is from calling for“go away from”to questioning it, and finally to“go back to”, which imply their criticism and introspection about their ethnic’s backward culture, as well as deeply worries about Tujia development prospect. Also his writing can be called an anxiety of positioning writers’cultural identity.Tian’er is the Tujia writer at the turn of centuries, whose works gives out a new message of constructing the ethnic code of Tujia group. They observe the living condition of Tujia people from the height of the mankind and society, diluting their identity as a minority writer. They adopt the popularized and fablized writing styles to reflect the economical, cultural, and social conditions faced by Xiangxi, even China, giving an expression of common life mentality and spiritual idea. This is the writing of ultra-ethnic code, and meanwhile an ethnic code reconstruction of Tujia minority group. In their works, it seems that the dominant code is reduced and diluted, but the recessive ethnic spirit and ethno psychology exist everywhere, such as revealing the unique ethnic thinking, and using Tujia dialect in random.Differences in the construction of ethnic code among the above three generation of Tujia writers originated from different political, economical, and cultural background. Considering such differences, we explore the development history of ethnic minority writers’literature, and try to reveal some unique values and laws, which have specific significance.
