Abstract

This paper investigated the features of pyrolysis and gasification of sugarcane bagasse in steam. In order to produce the biomass synthesized gas which has the main components of H2 and CO with high heating value and gas yield. Moreover using a self-designed combustion furnace , the practical application of gasification has been explored.Under experimental conditions, the conversion of biomass consists of two processes: pyrolysis and gasification. The gases produced mainly consist of H2, CO, CO2, CH4, tar and carbon. Steam remained excessive through the whole experiment. The yield and distribution of different production in pyrolysis depend on temperature, heating velocity and grain size . In the experiments using combustion furnace, liquefied petroleum gas was used as energy source. Pure oxygen and superheated steam was added as combustion-assisting agent in orderto investigate how pressure of steam affects the compositions and temperature of exit gas.In the pyrolysis experiments, using steam as gasification agent, under the conditions ofpowder material and 1050℃, synthesized gas with heating value of 10MJ/Nm3 can be produced in high ratio of created gas of 1.7m3/kg, and the main compositions of synthesized gas are H2、 CO which added up to more than 70% in volume. The results of experiment can be interpreted by the theories of non-homogeneous reaction, reacting equilibrium and diffusibility control . The change of heating velocity had little impact on the result of the experiment. The relations between temperature and gas yield can be approximately illustrated by a simple mathematical linear regression model with the formula as y=5.7382x - 3607.1. For CO, H2, we can use exponential curve fitting to describe the relations between their yield and temperature. The formula is y=1.3713e0.0057x and y=2.227e0.0061x. Furthermore, thecombustion furnace achieved the operation of internal heating and achieved a high temperature gas which has the main composition as CO2 using steam as combustion-assisting agent. And the lowest temperature combustion-assisting point of steam was 600℃. The best steam pressure in the experiment was 0.12MPa , resulting in the fall of temperature of exit gas with any other pressures below or above this pressure. The exit gas is fit to react with the biomass present in the reacting device and can achieve the synthesized gas as expected.
