Abstract


Objective : To observe the androgen level in atherosclerosis（AS） and non-atherosclerosis and analyse the relation between AS and androgen . Method: Both carotid arteries and arteries of lower extremity received ultrasonic examination by Doppler’s method . Those with arteriosclerosis and much atheromatous plaque were ranged into case group , and those with normal result were control group . Total testosterone（TT）、 free testosterone（FT） and estradiol（E2） were assayed by radioimmunoassay, HDL-C、 LDL-C、 TC and TG were assayed by colorimetry , tumor nectrosis factor- α （TNF- α ）、 Lnterleukin-6（IL-6）、 intercellular adhesion molecule（sICAM-l） were determined by ELISA , the mean difference between two groups was compared and the correlation between FT and other cytokines was analysed. Results: FT was 4.387±3.025pg/ml in case group and 12.382±5.113pg/ml in control group , P<0.01; HDL-C was 1.325±0.224mmol/L in case group and 1.758±0.436mmol/L in control group , P<0.01; TC was 5.012±0.723mmol/L in case group and 4.312±0.350mmol/L in control gruoup ; TG was 1.678±0.263mmol/L in case group and 1.305±0.211mmol/L in control group , P<0.05; TNF- α was 24.904±12.409pg/ml in case group and 17.735±11.895pg/ml in control group ,P<0.05; IL-6 was 41.700±31.385 pg/ml in case group and 25.396±20.772pg/ml in control group , P<0.05 ; sICAM-1 was 432.571±146.968pg/ml in case group and 316.517±95.091pg/ml incontrol group , P<0.01; There was no difference in TT、 E2 and LDL-C . Correlation analysis shows that FT has positive relation with HDL-C （CI=0.585, P<0.01） , and FT has negative relation with LDL-C and TG （CI=-0.313, P<0.05 ; CI=-0.427, P<0.05） . Also FT has negative relation with IL-6 and sICAM-l（CI=-0.348, P<0.05 ; CI=-0.315, P<0.05） . Conclusion: FT level in old male atherosclerosis is obviously lower than that in non-atherosclerosis . Normal level of FT maybe has the role of protect vascular endothelian and prolong the progress of atherosclerosis , which maybe is achieved by affecting the lipid metabolism and inflammatory reaction.
