Abstract


English, as a worldwide language is playing an important role in many aspects, such as trade, diplomacy, culture and so on. It has been designed as a compulsory course in all kinds of schools since the reform and opening-up policy in China. Years of teaching practice has largely improved our students’ English level. However, due to many factors, the situation of the students’ oral English in senior high school is not satisfactory. The students’Oral English has become a problem of much concern, and ;t has attracted the attention of linguists and English teachers. This paper intended to investigate the problems existing in the students’ oral English and analyze the cause for these problems, then propose a different method to solve these problems and improve the students’ communicative competence.The communicative events in daily life often occur in a concrete and meaningful situation, and every communicative event has a goal to achieve. Such as asking ways, seeing a doctor or just chatting with friends. All these communicative events need the cooperation of participants to finish. Based on this principle, the author adopts the multidimensional method, namely combining the Situational Language Teaching, Task-Based Language Teaching and Cooperative Language Learning to apply to the oral English teaching in senior high school. The main notion of the method is to create a meaningful situation, in which the teaching tasks are designed, and the students finish the tasks by cooperating with each other. The students acquire language ability by finishing the task.Following this route, the author carried out a research on the students’ oral English teaching in Haicheng Senior High School in Liaoning Province for a semester, and the author also worked as the teacher during the research. The result will be shown from the aspects such as whether the multidimensional method was suitable for oral English teaching in senior high school, or it can arouse the students’interest in English learning, whether it can improve the students’ communicative competence.
