Abstract

In order to obtain the Phenol-Formaldehyde Resin with more excellent useful Performance, different ways can be used to modify Phenol-Formaldehyde Resin, inputting Inorganic element during synthesize progress is one way of them. In this paper, Boron-Nitrogen containing Phenol-Formaldehyde Resin (BNPFR) was synthesized by introducing the boron and nitrogen element, and it was compounded with Nanometer material, and the Research work is divided into two parts. The first part is about the synthesis of BNPFR, and we researched the reaction mechanism and structure of BNPFR in synthesis and curing process and the thermal properties. The reaction mechanism and structure of BNPFR in synthesis were investigated by FTIR, NMR. The results show that methylol group reacted with ammonia firstly to produce the first meso-production, then phenol hydroxyl group reacted with butyoxyl borate through ester exchange, the hexatomic ring containing coordinate linkage of boron-oxygen and boron-nitrogen were formed in the thermosetting process, principally. During the synthesis and curing process, the ether linkage and carbonyl group were produced simultaneously. The glass transition temperatures (T_g) values are measured for the BNPFR specimen cured isothermally at different temperatures for various periods and with different nitrogen content, the results show that T_g increased with conversion and the nitrogen content has little influence on the T_g.The thermal degradation kinetics of cured BNPFR was investigated by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), the results show that ether linkage and carbonyl group are the main factors influence the thermal stability. The thermal stabilityof BNPFR is higher than that of common phenol resin. The decomposition reaction of this resin can be divided into two stages, and the decomposition reaction follow first order. In addition, some research work was carried out on the synthesis of BNPFR/montmorillonite nanocomposite by the situ intercalation polymerization. The change of interlaminer spacing of the organic-montmorillonite in the product was analysis by XRD, the results show that the product is intercalation composite materials.
