The environment of waterfront wetland which is one of the cradles of human civilization, becomes the carrier of the origin of almost all life. Based on the previous studies, during the early period of human society there were sights of copying natural waterfront wetland landscape. Meanwhile, the construction of waterfront wetland landscape has been in progress with intense traits of nature and local culture, emphasizing both region and humanity. The construction of waterfront wetland keeps continuing. Recently, the expansion and reconstruction of cities lead to the quick decline of the area of city waterfront wetland, there’re even some problems in the reconstruction, such as placing the cement embankment underneath, changing curve ditch or channel to a straight one, and the loss of the ecological environment of waterfront wetland of natural rivers. Therefore, we can see that it is a great event to preserve, resume, and rebuild waterfront wetland scientifically. It is a trend to construct waterfront wetland of the type of ecology, humanity, and landscape in the city.However, at present our country is lacking in a macrocosmic, systematical, and logic theory and practice to construct waterfront wetland landscape in city. Confronted with such serious actuality of the preservation and construction of waterfront wetland, we’re required to have a discussion and make research in science and practice in order to change the present situation. With this goal in mind, the dissertation makes a research into the means by which the city waterfront wetland is designed by applying the method of comparison, induction, etc. The spirit of humanistic and historical design are combined in a harmonious way with the instance of the Park of Chengdu Huanhuaxi.The dissertation includes the following nine sections:1. Summarization: a generalization is made upon the type of waterfront landscape and relative definition of city waterfront wetland landscape; make a review on the history and development of the theory and practice of city waterfront wetland landscape at home and abroad.2. Index: an introduction is made on the background and significance of the dissertation, and the thoughts of study which consists of the scope, the content, the method, and the relative techniques.3. The function, character, and the type of city waterfront wetland: a summary is made on the function, character, and the type of city waterfront wetland.4. The important elements of city waterfront wetland: there are three important elements in all. The first element consists of ecologic elements, ecologic embankment, circulatory system of artificial wetland self-purification, and wetland plants(community); the second element is comprised of humanistic factors such as history, culture; the third element is about landscape, which involves
