Abstract


This paper will tell you the relationship between the rear service of the troops of the Qing Dynasty and the Second Opium War. There are three parts in this paper.The content of the first part is about the study situation of the Second Opium War and the rear service of the troops of the Qing Dynasty and the relationship between wars and rear service.The second part is the principal part of the paper. It demonstrates the relationship between the rear service of the troops Qing Dynasty and the Second Opium War from such aspects as transportation, information, military expenditure, equipments, medicine and health.In terms of transportation I proved that transportation had an important effect on troops’ mobilizing, arms’ supplying and other aspects.In regard to information I expounded the effect after narrating its situation which information had on troops’ mobilizing, Emperor Xian Feng’ getting in touch with his officials and officers.In regard of military expenditure I discussed that the lack of military expenditure had an effect on the hiring, drilling, mobilizing of the troops, the building of the defensive works, the deciding of the strategies of the Qing government, the fighting will of the officers and men.In the part of equipments I proved that the deficiency of equipments had an important effect on the Second Opium War from such aspects as grain, clothes, barracks and arms. The problems of preparing, storing and handing out of grain had a bad effect on the fighting in the Second Opium War. And the lack of clothes also had
