Abstract


Portrait painting was concepted "describe sb. as it is" or "graphic painting". Early paintings had stronger trait of "serving politics"and had content of sing merits and praise virtues".During the period of the Six Dynasties,it turned to aesthetic qulities.In Tang Dynasty, portrait paingting was splengdid .Until Song Dynasty ,with painting of man-of-letters’maturing, mountains-and-waters painting and flowers-and-birds painting had taken place of figure painting .Portrait painting was left out in the cold,only with its practical applicability,it had acquired a currency among the people ,but it is belittled"vulgar creatures".In Ming and Qing Dynasties,with new trade cites growing up and business economics flourishing and substantial social mode had turned to showy,portrait painting acquired great development,including various forms,richful technic and expression. It became different schools.And with the frequent economic and cultural interchange ,western formative idea ,anatomy and perspectivity was pouring into Chinese thinking sphere. Chinese paintners gave the formative language careful reconsideration from objective understanding angle.
