Abstract


At present, the process approach is the focus of discussion in the quality management system certification area. Since the IS09000:2000 family of standards issued, the discussion related to the process approach has been gone on. Due to its deep connotation of theory and complexity of operation, the process approach becomes the stress and difficulty of a quality management system operation and audit. Therefore, ISO/TC176 issued "Guidance on the process approach to Quality Management Systems" (IS0/TC176/SC2/N544) in December 2000, it is expected to unite understanding and comprehension about the process approach in the world. Obviously, it is very important.As the theory basis of the IS09000:2000 family of standards, the process approach has far-reaching’ influence on establishing, implementing, maintaining and improving a quality management system. We have only known essential character and action rule of a process adequately, and comprehend and apply the process approach correctly, then it is possible to ensure both the effectiveness and efficiency of a quality management system, there by enhance the organization performance in the round.By analyzing deeply the process approach theory, combining with my experience of consult and audit, this thesis brings forth the "customer-process-performance" mode of understanding and applying the process approach correctly, that is focus on the objective customer, identify processes by the numbers, control performance wholly. This mode not only reflects the immanent essence of the process approach theory, but also embodies the notion of customer oriented processes (COP), total quality management(TQM) and seeking organization performance in the contemporary management.
