Abstract

At present, global development significantly depends on energy supply, primarily on conventional energy, such as oil and gas. The utilization of solar energy is very promising and is expected to replace conventional fossil energy in the future. Air conditioning accounts for a large proportion of the energy consumed in buildings. Conventional air conditioning systems are driven by electricity, boilers, or natural gas, all of which contribute to the depletion of fossil energy. To solve these problems, the present paper designs a solar-powered liquid desiccant and evaporative cooling system. The liquid desiccant evaporative cooling system comprises a heat pipe flat-plate heat collector, a compound parabolic concentrator (CPC) high-temperature heat collector, a solution regeneration device, a liquid desiccant device, and a water evaporation refrigeration device. The current research focuses on the heat pipe flat-plate and CPC high-temperature heat collectors, as well as the liquid desiccant and water evaporation refrigeration devices. The following conclusions were drawn: (1) The heat pipe flat plate collector can achieve a 40°C heat source output, realizing the preheating function of the flat plate collector. (2) The CPC high-temperature heat collector can achieve a 75°C heat source output with a high thermal efficiency, realizing the supplemental heating function of the CPC high-temperature heat collector. (3) The system of solution regeneration device was examined by adjusting the solution flow rate, inlet solution temperature, air flow rate, inlet air temperature, and inlet air relative humidity. The experimental results show that for a regeneration device with certain structural parameters, including the import and export parameters of the solution and air parameters, an optimal value of solution flow rate exists. (4) For the water evaporation refrigeration device, ambient air temperature, ambient relative humidity, and air flow rate were regulated. The results show that for indirect evaporation refrigeration, when air flow rate is 256.8 m3/ h, inlet air relative humidity is 40%, and ambient air temperature is 38°C, the difference between ambient air and outlet air temperature reaches 3.16°C. For direct evaporation refrigeration, when air flow rate is 143 m3/h, inlet air relative humidity is 40%, and ambient air temperature is 40°C, the difference between ambient air and outlet air temperature reaches 7.5°C. The result further shows that the expected function of a water evaporation refrigerating device is achieved. The experimental study on the aforementioned aspects yielded meaningful results. A solar energy liquid desiccant evaporative refrigeration cooling system is proven to be a feasible technical approach that provides an efficient way of mitigating the fossil energy crisis.
