Objective: To investigate the cause of symptomatic epilepsy in children , clinical characteristics and surgical methods and summarize treatment experience. Methods : The hospital from January 1997 to December 2004 , 27 cases of pediatric surgery symptomatic epilepsy were retrospectively analyzed . All patients comprehensive assessment of preoperative localization , intraoperative cortical EEG monitoring under the lesion in 14 cases, in combination with other surgical lesion 13 cases ( combined resection of epileptogenic foci , multi subpial transection , low power pour hot burning , corpus callosum , etc. ) , 11 cases of lesions in the temporal , or temporal plus front row anterior temporal lobectomy . On the frequency of the seizures before and after surgery and medication types were analyzed , according to the curative effect of improved efficacy Engel grading grading standards . Results : 27 patients were no operative deaths and serious complications. Frequency of seizures after surgery was 1.08 2.31 times / month , after serving one kind of anti- epileptic drugs in 21 cases, serving two kinds of anti- epileptic drugs five cases , serving three kinds of anti- epileptic drugs one case , the frequency of seizures after surgery and medication types significantly reduced (P lt; 0.01). Postoperative effects classification : Ⅰ level 18 cases (66.7%), Ⅱ grade 6 cases (22.2%), Ⅲ grade 3 cases ( 11.1% ) . Conclusion : Preoperative comprehensive analysis and assessment of the children with symptomatic epilepsy epileptic foci have a greater application value positioning , cortical EEG monitoring using a variety of surgical procedures under the combined treatments can achieve satisfactory results , not only can control attack, reduce the amount of anti-epileptic drugs and side effects, but also can improve the quality of life of children with epilepsy .
