Abstract

In the development of air-ground radio communications and navigation system and installation of ground stations. How to reduce the multi-path fading in wireless communication channel at far field is a very important problem. The performance of system will be affected for the multipath propagation, which cause a series of decline in far-field.There are many factors, such as the altitude of ground station and antennas, the electromagnetic parameters in Fresnel zone, and the effects on signal coverage of the geography, affect the multi-path fading. Analyzing these factors synthetically to estimate the actual far-field distributing is an extremely complex process. Therefore, a multi-path fading comprehensive assessment tool is very important for the location choice of the ground station and further optimization, which can avoid the harmful effects of multi-path fading.Firstly, the transmission modes of wireless signal and the types of multi-path fading are proposed in this paper. Then, the paper presents the basic concept and characteristic of radio wave which transmits in the free area. The causes of multi-path fading are analyzed and the crucial factors such as the earth radius factor K, radiation factor D, reflectance, wave path differenceθ, gain factor g(θ) are described in detail. Moreover, the paper gives the analytical expression about R which establish a stabile foundation to research and analyze the multi-path fading. Some important concepts, such as the number of zero zone nsinΨ, beaconing distance BD, radiation angle x, antenna fading radiation pattern, Fresnel zone and the upright gap in the first Fresnel zone are introduced. In addition, the paper analyses the effects of different landforms on mixed-signal and the correlative multi-path reflection. Some methods for avoiding strong specular reflection and side reflection are presented. The idea and interface software of multi-path fading analyzer are given in last chapter.
