Abstract

In this paper, 1948-2004 years the NCEP / NCAR reanalysis data of the space distribution of the North Pacific storm track , the time evolution , as well as its relationship with the Arctic Oscillation (AO) conducted a preliminary study . The study found that : ( 1) the northern hemisphere synoptic scale disturbance zonal concentrated on two oceans in the mid-latitude storm track shall be such a synoptic scale disturbances most active regions . In the area of ??the shaft of the storm , the use of different physical quantities from different angles reflect the physical characteristics of the storm track . The same physical quantity distribution in the shaft different regions in the same storm , the analysis of the internal structure of the storm track . (2) The winter North Pacific storm track exists significant inter-annual , decadal differences . The study found that , when the center of the storm track intensity (weakened) period , generally corresponds to the area increases ( narrow ) and a location west ( East) , south (North) mobile . North Pacific storm track winter annual difference mainly in two space -type : first space type reflect changes monopole in the vicinity of the strength and displacement of the average position of its climate change , the second space type is reflected in Pacific , the eastern part of the north-south displacement and changes in the strength of the dipole change . ( 3 ) the use of synthetic analysis method to analyze the relationship between the winter North Pacific storm track and the Arctic Oscillation (AO) . On the one hand , the winter North Pacific storm track , the weak years AO modal analysis . Found that the AO and winter North Pacific storm has synchronized the strong and weak change . On the other hand , the AO index high and low values ??in the winter North Pacific storm track level distribution vertical structure and energy transfer analysis . The results show that , in the the AO index the high ( low ) value of the year, generally corresponds to the strong side of the storm -axis intensity (weak) , the position of the north ( south ) , baroclinic storm track region significantly enhanced ( weakened ) and synoptic scale vortex trends in polar and the upward heat , and momentum transport significantly enhanced (weakened ).
