With the rapid development of basketball, defense has been paid more and moreattention all over the world. Being bad in defense is one of the main reasons forChinese Women’s Basketball Team’s defeat in the 28th Olympic Games. There are 8matches for top eight as well as 4 matches for Chinese team, take the 12 matches asmy research object, make research on their defenses tragedies and try to find out thegap between Chinese team and world tops, and provide some reference for Chineseteam’s future training and competitions. Documentary, experts interview,questionnaire, video watching, data statistical methods are adopted. And thefollowings are the results:1. World tops embodied the principle of “Take ball as the central, focus onplayers, ball, area and board at the same time”well in their defense tragedies, showedgreat aggressiveness. There are various of tragedies in their defense system, one ortwo ones are their key means and the most aggressive one has been used as theweapon to confirm and turn the matches.2. The main defense tragedy is man-to-man. The champion team, USA. evenenriched this tragedy and caused great troubles in full court for its opponents. Theother Top eight adopted man-to-man and enlarged their half courts. Australia, Russianand Lithuanian adopted zone-defense, aiming at "get the ball" in all their matches.3. The Main defense tragedies for Chinese team is to shorten man-to-man at halfcourt, and Chinese is the team who adopted zone-defense most. To the successfulrates, distance exists between Chinese and world tops in their defense tragedies,especially in defending shot and rebounds.4. American players had top speed, divided their work clearly in defense and aregood at fast break, can prevent opponent’s fast break successfully.
