Abstract


Fibre is one of the materials having everything to do with human lives. It falls into two categories, natural arrival and plant fibre (feather, cotton, flax and silk) as well as synthetic fibre. The art of fibre is a form created by artists who utilizes these materials sharing great affinity with human being. It is based on such means as weaving, round-weaving, encircling and stitching to shape the decoration image of a plane, a cubic, and a space. The art of fibre boasts both the traditional authenticity and the modern characteristics of art design, and it also includes the pure artistic nature of painting and drawing. It is a handdraft when on display for craft and artistic; the work of a designer when on exhibition for artistic design; a wall painting when on painting exhibition; and a soft sculpture work when on sculpture display. Those huge fibre artistic works which are applied in the construction space belong to public art.In the recent years, the modern art of fibre in China has been developed rapidly, and it has reached to a certain scale. And a great number of the art works of fibre have become the advanced and elegant ornaments on public construction space. What we need is a conception which describes the relationship between the art works of fibre and the location; that is "intergrowth" which of just the research purpose of this paper. The elapsing of time means the change of the material background and the standard of evaluation, and the great breakthrough and development of materials and technology has also influenced the social politics, humanistic psychology and the concept of art, which are closely bound up with them. Relying on its visual language and flexible form, the art of fibre, from the aspects of breakthrough of material quality and novelty, have created the modern art works of fibre which can endue the location with spiritual meaning. Thus a certain "spirit of location" (Nobe Schuerts) or "construction consciousness" (Liang Sicheng)is reached.From the related examples abroad and home, we can see that both artists and designers are continuously adding those things that can arouse people’s imagination and emotion in the environmental space. The art works of fibre, which not only respect the individual characteristics of the environment but also is connected with the natural background of environmental space, so then reach the harmoniousness with the entirety, are destined to yield unusually brilliant results in the current people’s life environmental space.
