Abstract


Mulan-shi is one of the excellent folk songs in the ancient times in China. For thousands of years people have been fond of the image of Mulan although Mulan-shi have been revised for many times in different samples. There are many advantages to comprehending the history and the folk songs of Northern Dynasty for us to studding Mulan-shi in the situation that in recent years more and more people show their interest to Mulan even in foreign countries. Of course we could do better for understanding traditional culture of China, too. This thesis has a detailed analysis and research about Mulan-shi including the times for production, hometown of Mulan and Mulan’s story, the image of Mulan and the culture about Mulan, the characteristic about narration. At first, there are detailed analysis in four ways: the explanation of the topic, the influence to Tang Dynasty, the background of Mulan-shi, the character and the style of the words, and the last conclusion is that Mulan-shi should be the folk song of Northern Dynasty. The second, this thesis has a inference that the homeland of Mulan is Yucheng in Henan province on the base of analyzing the records in many history and geography books. The third, it has a careful inquiry about the image and the culture about Mulan including the loyalty and filial piety, the braveness, the mediocrity and the spirit of Mulan, sums up the causes why Mulan have been won high praise for thousands of years. The last, as far as Mulan-shi this thesis also has a particular study about the characteristic of narration and obtains a conclusion about the influence and the position in the history of narrative poem.
