Abstract
|
The secretion of submandibular gland is regulated by sympathetic and parasymphathetic autonomic nerves. Norepinephrine released from sympathetic postganglionic fibers activates specific adrenoceptors (AR) on the basolateral surface of the acinar cells to regulate saliva secretion. The secretion of the water and electrolytes which are main elements in the saliva is regulated byα1-AR. Nowadays, as more highly attention paid on histological structure, function and secretion mechanism of the human submandibular gland, the studies on submandibular gland are various. However, these studies are generally limited in the adult submandibular gland. Until now, little is known regarding the distribution and the location of adrenergic receptor subtypes in human fetus submandibular gland. The objectives of this research are to study the histogenesis and morphometry, and examine the expression ofα1-AR (α1A-AR,α1B-AR, andα1D-AR) subtypes in human fetus submandibular gland and provide morphological basis to explore the relationship between the expression ofα1-AR subtypes and the development of the gland. Methods: 24 normal induced abortion fetuses ranging from 12 weeks of gestation to full term were collected. Age was assessed according to crown-rump length (CRL) and clinical history. The fetuses ranging from 12 weeks of gestation to full term were divided into four groups: Group I (10-16weeks), Group II (17-21 weeks), Group III (22-27weeks), and GroupⅣ(28weeks- full term). Their weight and 3D dimensions like length, breadth and thickness were measured. Immunohistochemical assay was used
