Background: Schizophrenia is a common mental illness, which is characterized by the change of basic personality, including disorders of thought, emotion and movement as well as inability to separate real life from unreal experiences. It affects about 1 percent of population all over the world.Schizophrenia is result from a combination of biological, social and psychological factors. Among the biological contributors, the genetic factors play an important role with a high heritability about 60℅to 80℅. At present, experts from in and abroad mainly use linkage analysis to search for susceptible gene predispose to schizophrenia throughout the genome. In recent years, scientists discover that positive result have been reported in many chromosomes by gene localization research. But the most important susceptible loci are still unclear. Among the positive results, just a few can be repeated and most of them are conflicting, which reflects the heterogeneity and complexity of schizophrenia. As the Human Genome Project has accomplished gradually, the genetic mechanism of schizophrenia will be uncovered at last.Microsatellite DNA or called Short Tendom Repeats(STR) is a kind of new DNA genetic marker system with high polymorphism which is developed rapidly in recent years. It is widely distributed, with high polymorphism, high heterozygosity and low recombination rate. At the same time, it is with large variance in the group and individual specificity. There is one STR
