Abstract


Chinese modern architecture is (?) the Chinese architecture history and theory, it amalgamates orient culture with west culture and exists as the new things and the old things, it is a connecting link between the preceding and the following in the architecture history. Schoolhouse play an important role in modern architecture, it was one of the former types came into the China, it embodies the combination of local culture and western culture. After Opium War, because of the need for missionizing, the early missionary came the upcountry and launched church schools, it was a means to make cultural pervasion. Church schools is not only an important chapter but also an important part of modern architecture history. The church schools accelerated the process of education, it was a special culture phenomenon during the course of the Chinese modern architecture. It was the beginning of church schools in the China and brought the combinative patterns between the native and the exotic. On the one hand, the western architecture built these buildings in order to make a harmonious of local conditions. Many of them combined traditional history with western culture, Such as the Chinese traditional architecture styles. On the other hand, after the native architects accepted the western education, they take the initiative study for the western architecture culture.
