Abstract

Osteoarthritis of knee(KOA) is a chronic disease which badly harms health of the middle and old age people. KOA is the same meaning as "Gu Bi、Knee Pain"in traditional Chinese medicine. Its characteristic is that articular cartilage appears primary or secondary degeneration, with hyperplasia of the bone under cartilage. The main clinical expressions of KOA are knee joint pain, tumidness and limitation of activity. The cause and pathogenesis of KOA are not completely clear yet, there is no satisfying way to treat KOA besides replacement of knee joint for few patients in the present medicine. However there were many clinical reports had proved that some traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) had a good effect.KOA that have clinical symptoms were"primary symptoms even and second symptoms acute",and in treatment the primary symptoms and second tims shoud be relieved at the same time,the first important is to relieve the second symptoms,then take an eye on primary symptoms.Objective:Observe the therapeutic effect of KOA by nourishing liver and kidney,and removing blood stasis and freeing vessel .Methods: Seventy-two cases of KOA were divided into two groups randomly (curing group) which has thirty-six patients of the prescription of BuXuTongLuo and the group (controlling group)which has thirty-six patients of KangGuZengSheng-coated Capsules. The course of treatment was one month .The symptoms and physical signs were observed before and after treatment.Result: The symptoms and physical signs were improved after treatment. In treatment group ,the controlled and remarkable effective rate is 70.00% and the totally effective rate is 100%.While in the controlled group,the controlled and remarkable effective rate is 73.33% and the totally effective rate is 93.33%.There is a significant difference between the treatment group and the control group (P<0.05).Besides, the treatment group is superior to the control group in improving symptoms and relieving pains of TCM. Four cases of the control group had gastrointestinal side-reaction, but the curing group had no toxic and side-effect.Conclusion: The basic pathogenesis of KOA is deficiency of liver and kidney and blood stasis. It is proved that removing blood stasis and freeing vessel, and nourishing liver and kidney is a effective main therapeutic method in treating KOA. It’s not only the symptoms
